Your book is a folder. Your chapters are files.

Pergament saves your work automatically as Markdown or plain text on your computer. Your writing stays accessible in other editors, ready to copy, back up, or take with you.

Along the way, you can:

• Format as you type. Markdown shortcuts turn into styled text, with the markup revealed when you return to edit.
• Keep ideas close. A separate notes panel holds outlines, character names, and stray thoughts beside your draft.
• Move between chapters. Keyboard shortcuts and a searchable chapter picker help you find your place.
• Capture a draft. Take a snapshot before a big revision and restore it later.
• Share your work. Export to PDF, DOCX, EPUB, ODT, Markdown, or plain text.

For days when you want to keep the draft moving, optional typewriter mode centres the current line and limits editing controls—including undo and redo.
